Comment | In the opinion of S. Khaukhchishvili, this is an epithet ταυρόπολους ( 1. Coming with oxen, 2. Idolized in the country of Taurus, where ταυρος was translated as a mountain, because this was a name of a mountain between Cilicia and Armenia) (S. Khaukhchishvili, Our Science N3-4 (15-16), 1925, pg. 85-86) K. Kekelidze: “Mtapholo is another epithet distorted on the graphical level ἐλαφηβόλος “Shooter {of arrow} towards deer” (in other case the proved form in Georgian “Elaphivolo”) (К. Кекелидзе, История и восxвoление венценосцев, 1954, 96). T. Khaukhchishvili: “πολος და βολος - on the graphical level both of them will give us “Pholos” in Georgian. Delivery of the first parts (ταυρο და ελαφη) by the word “mountain” (if it is in reality a “mountain” and not distortion of some other word), is more doubtful re the praiseworthy king with the world renowned sages – Socrates and Plato –well-known to the author” (T. Khaukhchishvili, Antique World in the Historiography of Rustaveli Epoch. Historians of Tamar, Macne, the series of history, archeology, ethnography and history of art, Tbilisi, 1974, p. 105). I. Abuladze thinks, that ταυρος was situated in Scythia, which was linked to Artemis (I. Abuladze, Tales by Helenians, Enimci’s Chronicles, X, pg.pg. 15, 7, 40) |
