Comment | Elguja Maghradze: “In our opinion Epicurus had expressed his opinion to mean the following: “The one who is on good terms with nature and not after false values is always satisfied with what he has, as in terms of what nature deems enough all property is wealth and in terms of unbridled wishes even the greatest wealth is not wealth, but poverty” And the last line of the stanza written by David Guramishvili: “When he acquires a little, he is after much” – is related to Epicurus’ saying: “For whom little is not enough, nothing is enough” Or: “You will often see a person, who is poor in terms of the final goal of nature, but rich in terms of false values, as nothing is ever enough for an avid person, he is always worried about what he does not have (Elguja Maghradze, Two Novels; Lamentation, Tbilisi, 1984, pg. 289) |
