Comment | The expression “the navel of the land”, i.e., the very middle of the land, is found in a number of literary works of the antiquity and Medieval period, unlike the expression “the navel of the sea” (i.e., the midst of the sea), which occurs, as far as it can be determined, only in “The Man in the Panther Skin” (584, 1) and “Odyssey” (I, 50: ”Hothi t’ omphalos esti thalasses” - “where is the navel of the sea”).
